Expert writing tutors

Welcome to our home for writers

Here at The Writing Retreat, we love to work with writers who are keen to learn and grow and follow their writing dreams - and who are prepared to do the necessary work to get to where they want to be. If that's you, relax, you have come to the right place.

We know how it feels when you're struggling and battling that nagging voice that says you can't do this, that you're not good enough. Most writers first come to writing assuming they already know how to do it. Then, of course, they find out that writing fiction is different to all the other writing they have done, and it comes as a bit of a shock. They had no idea how much they didn't know.

But we've worked with so many writers who have fought this same battle, and we know that it has nothing to do with your lack of talent or ability or promise, and everything to do with you simply not (yet) having access to all the tricks of the trade. We're here to teach you those tricks of the trade, and to be here for you throughout your entire writing journey. If you think a quick chat will help you figure out your path forward, hit the button below and choose a slot. We look forward to working with you.

Meet Kath Morgan

My two great passions are writing and teaching; I’m a qualified teacher with a Masters in Professional Writing (with distinction) and for the past thirty years I’ve taught at university, at adult education, in schools and privately. My favourite forms of writing are the short story and the novel, but I enjoy working with writers across the spectrum. When I'm not teaching, I can be found out and about with Becks, our writing retreat dog, parked up somewhere in my camper-van, scribbling away or editing. When I first decided to learn how to write fiction ‘properly’, it felt as if there was some elusive secret that only those born to be writers could be let in on. There isn't. There’s the craft, and there’s the practice - and I can teach you the craft.

Meet Jane Moss

I've been a writer for as long as I can remember, from stories at school, to copywriting and journalism, guidebooks and poetry. I've been teaching writers full-time since 2009, drawing on my own professional expertise as a writer and qualifications to Masters level (with distinction). On a typical day you'll find me in my garden office, teaching and writing, my two favourite activities. During lockdown I was struck by how much we need our creative outlets. Writing is one of the most accessible; you just need a pen or laptop, a quiet spot, an idea that fires your imagination, and off you go. My job is to keep you motivated and show you the skills of creative writing that make it satisfying. I can't wait to work with you.
